A Tribute:  William Winifred Young, Jr.

 

The following information is taken from the "Find A Grave" web site, and was compiled and added to the site by Tom Reese, who has collected information on those individuals from North Carolina who died in Vietnam.

PFC William Winifred Young, Jr.

Birth:     Feb. 5, 1948, Asheville, Buncombe County, North Carolina, USA

Death:   Jun. 15, 1967, Binh Duong, Vietnam


PFC William Winifred Young, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Asheveille, NC.

Private First Class William Winifred Young Jr was a casualty of the Vietnam War.  As a member of the Army, PFC Young served our country until June 15th, 1967 in Binh Duong, South Vietnam.  He was 19 years old and was not married.  It was reported that William died from multiple fragmentation wounds from a mine.  His body was recovered.  PFC Young is on panel 21E, line 110 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C.  He served our country for less than a year.

He was the son of Mr and Mrs William W Young Sr, Asheville, NC.

He served with Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, "Golden Dragons", 25th Infantry Division, "Tropic Lightning", USARV.

He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge (CIB), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal.
