A Tribute:  James Augusta Richardson

PFC James Augusta Richardson, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Durham, NC.

Private First Class James Augusta Richardson was a casualty of the Vietnam War.  As a member of the Army, PFC Richardson served our country until July 6th, 1966 in South Vietnam.  He was 20 years old and was not married.  It was reported that James died from friendly fire.  His body was recovered.  James was born on August 23rd, 1945 in Durham, North Carolina.  PFC Richardson is on panel 09E, line 003 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C.  He served our country for less than a year.

I am his brother.  Brother James, it's been 39 years today since you left us for the great beyond .  It still seems like yesterday. You have truly been missed and you will always be the hero of the family.  Carl Richardson, Durham, NC

He was the son of Mr and Mrs Moses Richardson, 3334 Hinson, Drive, Durham, NC.

He served with Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, "Golden Dragons", 25th Infantry Division, "Tropic Lightning", USARV.

He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge (CIB), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal.
