Two 2-14 Soldiers killed by IED in Iraq May 29

FORT DRUM – Two Soldiers assigned to the 10th Mountain Division were killed in IIbu Falris, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their position May 29 during a dismounted patrol.
 
Staff Sgt. Joseph M. Weiglein, 31, a New Jersey native, was an infantryman assigned to A Company, 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team. Weiglein was a squad leader.
 
Weiglein enlisted in the Army August 1995. He arrived at Fort Drum in October 2005.  He previously served at Fort Stewart, Ga.; Camp Hovey, Korea; Fort Riley, Kan.; and U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion, Beckley, West Va.
 
Weiglein is a graduate of the following courses: Unit Prevention Leaders, Light Infantry Leaders, Army Safety Program Management, Basic Noncommissioned Officers, Army Recruiters and Warrior Leaders.
 
His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Ribbon, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, U.S. Army Basic Recruiter Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, and the Driver Badge.
 
He is survived by his wife and parents.
