SPC Raymond N. Mitchell

         

2nd Brigade Combat Team Soldier killed in Iraq Jan. 6

FORT DRUM – An infantryman assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team died Jan. 6 when his patrol was attacked by small arms fire.
 
Spc. Raymond N. Mitchell III, 21, was an assistant machine gunner assigned to Company C, 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment.
 
A native of West Memphis, Ark., Mitchell enlisted in the Army in June 2005 and completed basic and advanced individual training at Fort Benning, Ga.
 
Following training, he was assigned to Fort Drum's 2-14 Infantry, also known as the ‘Golden Dragons.'
 
Mitchell completed the Combat Life Savers course in 2005.
 
His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
