Two 2nd Brigade Combat Team Soldiers killed in Baghdad by February 2 IED attack

Kevin began his journey with the U.S. Armed Forces when joining the Army ROTC program at Purdue University.  It was planned as the first stop in a would be career of civil service and a stepping stone toward becoming an FBI Agent.  He deployed to Iraq in September of 2006.  3 days after his 26th birthday, a roadside bomb that detonated outside of Kevin's vehicle in the southern outskirts of Baghdad swiftly and mercilessly halted any future ambitions.  He was riding in the passenger seat of the fourth Humvee in a caravan of five when shrapnel from a bomb pierced the side door of his vehicle, killing him and Staff Sgt. Terrence D. Dunn, 38, of Houston, who was riding behind him.  As a proficient and respected leader, the Army Captain was serving the 2nd Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum.  Landeck was promoted from second lieutenant to captain and awarded the Bronze Star after his death, his family said.

His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, National Defense Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Expert Infantry Badge, and Airborne Insignia
