"Fourteenth Marks 84th Anniversary"

Men of the Fourteenth will observe the Regiment’s Eighty-Fourth Organization Day throughout the area Tuesday with a series of official and un-official celebrations expected to make the day a memorable one in the unit’s history.

It will be the first Organization Day observed in an enemy country since 1900 when the Fourteenth on August 14th raised its colors on the wall of Peking during the Boxer Rebellion.

Tuesday morning will witness a parade, a presentation of awards, and a review in the first official recognition of the day.

Two companies of each Battalion, the 71st Infantry Division Band, the Fourteenth Drum and Bugle Corps, Cannon Company, the 635th TD Battalion and Regimental Headquarters Company will parade through Gunzburg at 1030 to the Provisional Training Company Review ground on the edge of the city.

A review of the parading units will be held on the PTC field, following which, Maj. Gen. Williard G. Wyman, Commanding General of the 71st, will present Bronze Stars to fourteen men of the Regiment and deliver a brief message of congratulations to the assembled troops.

An honor detail consisting of one rifle platoon will fire three volleys, and six buglers will play Taps in commemoration of those men of the Regiment who died in their country’s cause in the War of 1812, Mexican War, Civil War, Indian Wars, Spanish-American War, Boxer Rebellion in China, and those recently fallen comrades who sacrificed their lives in World War II. Cannon Company will fire a 14-gun salute to the Regiment.

The afternoon schedule will include the "Rite-O-Liners" League game with the 271st Engineers at Gunzburg Field while other athletic events will take place in other towns of the Regimental area.

The night’s doings will feature unit celebrations in individual areas and company beer parties. The Regimental orchestra will play at parties in Third Battalion area. Arrangements for musical entertainment in the other battalion area are being made.
