25th Infantry Division Reunion - 2012

25th Infantry Division Association
63rd Annual Reunion
held at Chicago, Illinois, September 9-15, 2012

Dragons Bearing Gifts - Larry Weist, 25th IDA Past President and 14th Infantry Regiment Association President, holds a presentation check in the amount of $1,200 to the Infantry Memorial Project.  David Riebe, Secretary of the 14th Infantry Regiment Association, holds a presentation check in the amount of $1,000 to the 25th Infantry Division Scholarship Project.  Both donations were voted and approved by the 14th Infantry Regiment Association members in attendance at the first annual meeting of the Association held Thursday evening, Sept. 13th.

Twenty-one Golden Dragons and fifteen of their ladies recently took advantage of the Chicago tour packages and comfortable facilities provided for a reunion by the 25th Infantry Division Association at the Oak Brook Hills Resort by Marriott, in Oak Brook, Illinois.   14th Infantry banners and unit guidons decorated our tables in the Hospitality Room as old stories were re-told and new friendships were begun.

My wife and I just returned from the 25th ID Assoc reunion in Oak Brook, IL. Always a great time and for the second year in a row, the 14th Infantry Regiment has had the most attendees...It seems to be growing...We also had our first formal meeting of the 14th Inf. Regiment Association, to which many of you belong.  We are now one of many, such as the Wolfhounds, 3/4 Cav, Tomahawks, Bobcats and so on.  Now it the the Golden Dragons stepping up and diligently working to find more of our veterans, so we can embrace each other and talk to our brothers and meet new brothers, whether they are Dragons or Cacti and so on.  A healing process and a way to be proud of our service to our great country!  Our next reunion of the 25th ID Assoc will be held in Columbus, GA in October or September.  It is close to Fort Benning and will facilitate us visiting the base and the Infantry Museum and most likely the dedication of the memorial for the 25th ID.  It should have some very good tours . . . also Southern Hospitality, of course!!

In 2013 the reunion will be in Seattle, WA.  The following year it will be in Springfield, IL.   It is one I am looking forward to, as it will be held jointly with the 4th ID Assoc.  For those serving in the 1/14th Regiment, it is important as many were in the 25th ID and the 4th ID when they switched brigades on August 01, 1967.  The 1/14th were in Vietnam more years with the 4th ID than the 25th.  There are going to be some special reunions coming up.  I do hope you keep these in mind as more info comes in.  Please talk to those you are in contact with and that you served with so many years ago and encourage them to attend, to once again visit with them at a reunion, to catch up on the last 45 years or more . . . To embrace them once again.  Spread the word and do preliminary planning, all are certainly welcomed.
